Cotes du Rhone Rosé 2009

France » Rhone » Jaboulet Parallele 45 » Cotes du Rhone Rosé 2009

Summary

A blend of 50% Grenache, 40% Cinsault and 10% Syrah, this racy rosé has some serious weight on the palate. Vinified as a “vin de saignée,” a short maceration with a long fermentation under controlled temperatures is employed. This wine defines the word delicious! Cotes du Rhone.

Notes

With floral and crushed red cherry aromas, the wine shows full-bodied, ripe, mineral-driven fruit on the palate, with tangy undertones and a note of white pepper. The wine has a fresh, lip-smacking fruit character and an easygoing, uncomplicated nature that makes it pair well with a variety of dishes. The wine has acidity and tannins that are ripe but firm; this is no wimpy rosé. This hearty rosé is a winner.

"This delightfully charming pink wine is just the thing to lower the temperature of a sultry day. It's a blend of three red grapes: grenache, with its scrumptious strawberry and raspberry flavors; cinsault , which adds a soft, supple palate; and a dash of syrah for a hit of peppery spice. It's light and luscious and ready to party by the pool, but serious enough to hang with a simply prepared pork chop.

This ros is made by a process called saigne, as in bled. Free-run juice from just-crushed red grapes is drained, or bled, into another container to create a pink wine. The remaining red juice is also more concentrated and may be made into a darker red wine. You remember from your Wine 101 class that for the majority of red grapes, the color is in the skins, not the flesh, so the winemaker can control the amount of color in a wine by the amount of time spent on the skins."

The Jaboulet 2009 Ctes du Rhne Parallle 45 Ros is made from grapes sourced in vineyards located on the 45h latitude; thus the name. The vines have 25 years of age on them. This offering is a blend of Grenache (50%), Cinsault (40%), and Syrah (10%). This Ros was produced using the Saigne method. The wine was then aged for a brief period in temperature controlled tanks prior to bottling. This selection has a suggested retail price of $12.This wine has a gorgeous pale pink hue. Wild strawberry and red Bing cherry aromas are on display in the nose. Red fruits are the star of the show throughout the palate. Cherry, raspberry and strawberry are all present. Hints of passion fruit play a smaller role here, along with spice reference points. The finish brings out savory fruit along with mineral and additional spice notes; nutmeg and white peppercorn to name a few. This wine is crisp and clean with solid acidity. There is a great deal to like about this 2009 Ros. First and foremost its very refreshing and delicious. For $12 (less if you shop wisely) there is excellent value to be had here. A great wine to keep chilled in your refrigerator all summer long. Itll pair perfectly with traditional picnic foods.

From the venerable Rhone producer comes another sexy bottle. Nothing challenging, but - wow - there's an interesting layer of complexity here. Fast flavors delivered in a lighter body and a dry finish. The nose is spicy with fresh flowers and grassy-ness. A lovely wine you won't want to put down.Click Here
